End of the World Birding – Rose-throated Becard

April 7, 2020

Female Rose-throated Becard at Nest

This bird is not on my EOTW list. But it is still worthy of the short hike. Besides this bird, today, I saw my FOS Nashville Warbler near the bridge. Gray Hawks and Zone-tailed Hawks are nesting in the vicinity, and Black Vultures are often seen. The canopy along the river was noisy with Lucy’s and Yellow Warblers plus whining Gila Woodpeckers.

The Becards have been seen lately working on a new nest located roughly between the old single nest and the twin nests. The site is along the DeAnza Trail in Tubac about a 15-minute walk north of the bridge. Today, 4-7-2020, only the female was seen working. The male was likely out drinking with his buddies.
