This tiny Grebe showed up on Monday, 12-21-2020. Originally it was posted as a Pied-billed. Later that evening, an astute birder glanced over what was an otherwise unremarkable eBird list and saw a photo of the “Pied-billed Grebe.” The photo was under-exposed and the eye could not be seen, but from the shape of the bird and its bill, it was a likely candidate for Least. Early the next morning, a contingent of locals easily found the bird. Bingo! The spot is in a water treatment pond, just north of the park. The area is not fenced or posted. Actually a pretty good birding spot. I suspect that every birder from Tucson, Phoenix and much of Arizona will show up to see this bird. Hopefully, the WTP people will not try to limit access.
