We have most of the regular Mexican hummingbirds at various spots in Santa Cruz and Cochise Counties. Rivoli’s is resident at Santa Rita Lodge and is not included here. The Ash Canyon Preserve asks for a $10 donation and has limited parking. Beatty’s Ranch charges $5. The gardens at Ash Canyon are well maintained and there is a wide variety of more-or-less common birds there. Currently the Lucifer’s and Rivoli’s are the best. They are plagued with squirrels – much like Paton’s Chigger farm in Patagonia. Beatty’s has a shady pavilion on a hillside with several feeders. Entrance to Beatty’s also allows one a shortcut to the Miller Canyon Trail – avoiding a steep rocky section of trail. The birds are better at Beatty’s.

Hooded Warbler Pena Blanca Lake 6-7-22

On June 7, several of us went back out to see if we could re-locate the Yellow Grosbeak seen on June 5. As it turns out, no one made a confirmed sighting after Day One. But this nice Hooded Warbler was found singing loudly by Cathy Beck.

There were some technical issues with my posting of the Yellow Grosbeak pics so I’ve repeated one here. Hit the link at the end of this post to see the previous post.
