End of the World Birding – Himmel Park

Himmel Park

Himmel Park in the University of Arizona area of Tucson is a gem. 24-acres mostly grass with scattered trees, emmense open grass fields, a library, public convenience and a pool. Many off-leash dogs – which is strictly illegal. Only a few bums. The surrounding residential neighborhood, to the south, east and west show the remains of grand homes – likely the residences of University professors.

Recently there have been some decent birds found: Ruddy Ground-dove, Inca Dove, Clay-colored Sparrow, Lawrences Goldfinch, and a “greenie” Painted Bunting. We’ve been seeing Painted Buntings in SEAZ since July 24.

Clay-colored Sparrow
Western Meadowlark (I’m not so sure that this isn’t an Eastern)
Greenie Painted Bunting
Cooper’s Hawk – frightening the small birds
Hermit Warbler
I’m not sure as to the status of these people
