End of the World Birding – Drought

The Santa Cruz River, Clark Crossing 5-31-2021

One month ago I birded the Santa Cruz River at Clark Crossing. The water level seemed fine. Today, there were only a few stagnant pools. The cottonwoods at about 1/4 mile south are dropping their leaves. I suspect that people in Nogales have not been drinking as much beer as they need to. Yesterday I visited Tubac and noted that the water flow under the bridge was negligible. The Monsoon season begins soon. Last year a poor rain total was predicted and that’s what happened. This year an above average rain total has been forecast. Let’s hope that this year’s prediction is correct.
