End of the Drought Birding – Rain!

July 4, 2021

We’ve gotten about a quarter inch of rain over the last three days, and about the same last week. This morning I noticed that some of the oaks and other trees have begun to show some life. Today the weather authorities spake that we would get about .11″ over the next two days. Then at about 3:30pm the hardest rain I have seen in many years arrived and has been going on for half-hour without relenting with about .5″. I will figure out how to post a short video here. After one hour we had ~.75″ and there are still intermittent showers. Last year we had ~1.67″ for the entire Monsoon season. It will never rain again.

Dung Beetle, Lake Patagonia

I’ve never seen one of these before probably because I haven’t looked for one. But this fine specimen was next to the parking lot at Patagonia Lake. I looked up “Arizona Dung Beetle” on Google, or whatever link I had, and found it… And the editorial photo they used was taken at Patagonia Lake. Amazing. I would have expected lots of these in Jacumba.
